So far I use: Matrix, Friendica, Lemmy, PieFed. I also follow 1 or 2 persons on Mastodon, using Friendica.
I want to try vutuv now. Maybe in the future some more services.
Now I wonder if I should really register a new account for each service. May I ask for your advice? What do you recommend?
I didn’t think that Matrix was considered part of the fediverse? Lemmy and Piefed are redundant since their core functionality is very similar, unless the two accounts are to segment your online personas, like politics, NSFW, and everything else. I had never heard of vutuv until now.
Many fediverse platforms do have specialized functionality so it’s beneficial to open an account for them specifically. Here’s a good reference article with guidelines: https://fedi.tips/using-multiple-accounts-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse/
Thank you for the hint on the article and your points regarding my question! Regarding Matrix : yeah, also other guys here pointed me at that. Good to know better now ; before I thought it was part of fediverse. now I know that fediverse is basically defined by some level of communication via ActivityPub.
For each service that you use regular you should at least have two accounts. Just in case the service goes down or has other issues.
Do you mean on another instance? Interesting idea. But why do I need to do it in advance? In case my instance suddenly disappears I can make a new account only then… Or not?
It is not mandatory but more a nice to have thing.
Of course you can always create an account on another instance when your home instance disappears / has issues.
But for convenience reasons you should create it before this scenario happens.
You pretty much have to, yeah. Each platform has its own optimizations for its type of content, like Loops specializes in videos and the Threadiverse in link aggregation or text and pics.
That said, you can check out Mbin to at least lessen the number of accounts somewhat: it looks to me too focused on the needs of microblogging (e.g. longer titles that even span multiple lines), and last I checked had an enormous amount of wasted space for more Threadiverse style content (with tiny titles, perhaps a single word even). Although even noticing that could make you feel better about creating a new account for each service:-). It just goes with the territory.
Likewise, PieFed allows integration with Friendica and is expanding upon tighter integration with Mastodon… but it is primarily optimized for integration with Lemmy-style content more than anything else.
Thank you for your input. I was fearing right that; that for having the full functionality you need a native account for the respective service (in most cases). But it is not very problematic for me. I just didn’t want to do a complete stupidity by opening five accounts instead of using just one. Thanks again!
I have three accounts currently. One on piefed, one on a regional lemmy account and one for porn. Nothing wrong having multiple accounts to see what you like
As many as you want; the est practice is to link to your other accounts in the profile, though.
As much as you want
